About NSGS

The North Suburban Genealogical Society (NSGS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1975. Its purposes are:

  • to promote an interest in genealogy
  •  to encourage and instruct members in careful, documented genealogical research
  • to publish genealogical and historical information.
The North Suburban Genealogical Society serves all the northeastern Chicago suburbs. Monthly meetings are held at various locations including the Northbrook Library, the Glenview Library and the Northbrook History Museum.

History

In July, 1975, twenty-five people met in the Winnetka Library to organize a genealogy society.  By January, 1976, they had one hundred charter members.  Now the North Suburban Genealogical Society is in its 36th year.  It has members from neophytes to certified genealogists.  Young and old, with different educational and vocational backgrounds, they have a common desire to discover their family roots and to document this information.  The more we learn about their lives, the more interesting our ancestors become.
